Welcome to Shimrin Aussies! Please allow me to introduce myself and my dogs.
My name is Jennifer McCourt and I am the owner and founder of Shimrin Australian Shepherds.
My kennel began in 2009, with my first Australian Shepherd, a red tri girl named “Belle”. From there I added a blue merle female Australian Shepherd named “Arizona” in 2010 and I quickly began my journey into the wonderful world of Aussies.
Both of these ladies had amazing temperaments and were the smartest dogs I had ever known. I was so eager to teach them everything possible! I joined the local AKC kennel club and started taking lessons from the time they were young puppies. Thanks to some amazing instructors and smart dogs, I was able to earn my first performance titles with my girls in 2011, and I was hooked on this incredibly intelligent, loyal, and beautiful breed for life.
After competing for a couple of years and gaining many performance titles in AKC, ASCA and UKC, along with dabbling in the conformation ring, I made the commitment to learn all I could about ethical breeding, prior to having my first litter of puppies.
In 2013, under the careful guidance of my wonderful mentor who has been in the breed since the 1980’s, I bred my blue performance girl “Arizona” to her stunning AKC conformation champion dog “Hank”. This cross was not hap-hazard, it was truly a careful selection based on health, structure, longevity, a complementary pedigree match, genotype and phenotype. My mentor met and evaluated my blue girl to ensure she was worthy of breeding before pointing me in the direction of the best cross for her to lock in her strengths and improve upon her weaknesses. To this day I still lean heavily on that mentor for pedigree research, so I know what is behind each litter, even many generations back. I feel this is imperative and something many new breeders are not taking into consideration.
Through selective breedings and infrequent litters, Shimrin Aussies now has several generations of AKC conformation champions and grand champions as well as several obedience, rally and agility titled offspring. While I have not competed in herding, many of my dogs have been instinct tested and taken herding lessons where they excel. I also have several dogs titled in ASCA and UKC in conformation and performance. But most importantly, I have produced smart, loving “once in a lifetime” companions that now reside all across the United States and abroad.
